Performance limits of M-FSK with Reed-Solomon coding and diversity combining

چکیده
This paper examines the asymptotic ( ) performance of -ary frequency-shift keying (M-FSK) in multichannels, or multiple frequency-nonselective, slowly fading channels, with coding, side information, and diversity reception. In particular, Reed–Solomon (RS) coding is considered in conjunction with the ratio-threshold test (RTT), which generates side information regarding the reliability of received symbols. The asymptotic performance of orthogonal signaling in multichannels with maximal ratio combining (MRC), postdetection equal gain combining (EGC), hybrid selection combining (H-SC), and selection combining (SC) is derived for an arbitrary statistical fading model and diversity order. The derivations reveal that coherent and noncoherent implementations of diversity combining schemes yield the same performance asymptotically. In addition, the asymptotic results are evaluated assuming a Nakagamifading model, and the effect of fading severity, diversity order, code rate, and side information upon the performance of the various diversity combiners is investigated. The minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) required to achieve arbitrarily reliable or error-free communication, as well as the associated optimal RS code rate, are determined for various cases.

Exploiting the cannibalistic traits of Reed-Solomon codes
In Reed-Solomon codes and all other maximum distance separable codes, there is an intrinsic relationship between the size of the symbols in a codeword and the length of the codeword. Increasing the number of symbols in a codeword to improve the efficiency of the coding system thus requires using a larger set of symbols. However, long Reed-Solomon codes are difficult to implement and many commun...
متن کاملAn Effect of Erasure Decoding Scheme in FH/SSMA Systems with RS Codes and M-ary FSK Signaling
In this paper, we analyze an effect of erasure decoding scheme for RS (Reed-Solomon) codes in frequency-hopped multiple-access systems with M-ary FSK signaling. RS coding is used to correct erasures and errors caused by other-user interference and thermal noise. The proposed decoding scheme carries out the adaptive erasure-decision process according to the channel traffic prior to decoding proc...
متن کاملBER Performance of Reed-Solomon Code Using M-ary FSK Modulation in AWGN Channel
The main objective of this simulation evaluation is to determine the Bit-Error-Rate performance of Reed-Solomon codes in a noisy communication channel. M-ary Frequency Shift Keying (M-FSK) modulation technique is used for this simulation evaluation of the coded communication system. The forward error correction (FEC) technique is applied to detect and correct error of information received from ...

This paper is concerned with the performance of a Communications system which utilizes frequency-hop spread spectrum, diversity transmission, Reed-Solomon coding, and parallel error-correction and erasure-correction decoding. Both binary signaling and M-ary orthogonal signaling are considered. The goals are twofold. First, it is desirable to provide good performance in partial-band Gaussian noi...
